A remarkable journey to the outback to a broken hill

A brief stop over in Adelaide (more later). I headed north to a small town called Melrose where I camped at the base of Mt Remarkable.

It is 37 degrees in this photo.

Deciding to climb the mountain

I set off as the sun was rising.

It was quite a climb upwards

Eventually reached the top. Quite ‘remarkable’ I would say…

On the journey down I disturbed a mum and Joey

I have to say that the last hour was hard as the sun rose and the temperature got higher and higher.

Was I hallucinating, I could see naked woman everywhere.?

Can you see it. Don’t tell me you can’t!

Eventually got back exhausted . As was the weather which decided to break with a thunderstorm. Which really upset the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos (hundreds of them).

In sympathy I went to the pub which was just like being at home! Same conversations and characters except they all wore hats. it was like being in Crocodile Dundee.

Next day I headed east, into the outback. Driving for 4 hours with straight roads and making sure I didn’t hit any kangaroos… it was goats that were the problem. Every 10 minutes I pass a road train, a large truck pulling 3 trailers of similar length.

Whilst watching for kangaroos I see Emus, which are very funny as they panic and run around, and eventually away

Which way? No this way. No this way I don’t think he saw us. Ok this way. Pheww!

Crossed the border

And ended up in the mining town of Broken Hill, it was not quite as beautiful as my others experiences, but showed another aspect of Australian history. A clue here in street names.

And

However, just out of town an art gallery for the artist Pro Hart. He was from Broken Hill and worked down the mines.

What a great chapter of the blog Chris. The mountain climb looked hard but what great views. You look so tanned in the pub selfie.

The art is interesting – it must have been good to see that in that place.

The wildlife continues to excite me more though.

You are seeing and doing so much!
