They’re out to get you.

It is tempting when travelling in Australia to feel that everything is designed to kill or harm you. Indeed when talking to some friends before coming it was a primary reason for not coming. Even the locals have concerns.

True enough there does seem to an abundance of animals that here that do have potent and lethal defence mechanisms. However, you could be scared to death all the time if you felt they were out ‘ to get you’ especially when camping and enjoying the wilds, a key part of this trip for me and seeing snakes, sting rays, huge hornets etc.

However all this good will to native species goes at once with this absolute b’stard. It evolutionary processes I am sure are valid sticking in the paw of the passing kangaroo. But in fact that they stick in the sole of you shoes/flip flops and then come off inside when you don’t have any shoes on. They are small but when on the ground always are point up and they hurt especially when they ambush with friends.

What is this devil…

The three cornered Jack.. I think.

It shows no mercy.
